101 East: Hong Kong: Mainland Invasion

2012/01/29 Labels: ,

This documentary is worth watching as it highlights the ongoing conflicts between the HK locals and the mainlanders coming from the north.    What the HK locals see as an "invasion" and what the Chinese mainlanders see as finding a better future (which I can't blame them), and the crush of cultures and ideologies between the two groups of people can only intensify.
I think peace will finally come when the eventual equilibrium is achieved in which China is getting more developed and HK is finally being watered down into as one of China's typical coastal cities.    It may take, say, 5 more years.     This is bleak, I know.

Cage dogs of Hong Kong

2012/01/26 Labels:

The Dailymail did a story on Hong Kong's cage people - a group of people whom very existence has been ignored or neglected by the HK government.    An estimate of about 100,000 people in HK who are forced to live under appalling conditions like this - in a city where the GDP per capita (2011) stays around $46,000 USD and a budget surplus of HK $60 billion.  This is also a what you call the "freest economy" in the world according the Heritage Foundation, where the little invisible hand apparently is too busy milking the cash cow for all its worth and indifferent about the people in the bottom.   This is a fucking shame.
The mail rightfully calls these people "dogs" as they're indeed living in dog-like conditions.    A lucky dog somewhere in the world could easily live a life far comfortable compared to these people, whom human spirits and dignity are all deprived.    While the HK officials are busy congratulating themselves for another year of the freest economy title, they should take a good look at another gold prize - one of the highest in the Gini coefficient scores in the whole world.
Here I leave a quote from Donald Tsang: “The life expectancy in Hong Kong is among the highest in the world … you can come to only one conclusion: we have the most environmentally friendly place for people, for executives, for Hong Kong people to live.”
If I have to live long in places like this, I would rather put a bullet through my head.

Yes this is a prison cell in Sweden.   Lets travel to that country and rob someone.

a photo collection: mainlanders shitting and urinating in public

2012/01/22 Labels: ,

It is not uncommon to see mainland parents helping their kids urinate in public, or take a dump on the roadside for all to see.   This is now everywhere and nowhere to hide and you just have to live with the fact that this place is swamped by visitors whom never passed the first stage of basic toilet trainings.
Sometimes it’s just unbelievable how nasty people allow themselves to be in public – there are public restrooms everywhere, but for the mainlanders it is just a natural thing to do.   Shitting in public is apparently an acceptable practice in the mainland, and if you don't like it you can just go fuck yourself.
Here is a photo collection mostly from the Golden Forum.

Shit on the floor while the other passengers watch without any facial expression.

Mainland parents doing the clean-up after the shit erupted in the middle of the mall

This one displays a little more consideration as the mother thinks of using a bottle

A now classic picture.  A kid shitting while visiting the Disneyland.   A pile of dump can be clearly seen with a piece of toilet paper on top.

This one is clearly mistaken an MTR trash can as a public toilet stand

Another shit collection by the parents.   At least they brother to pick it up

A pile of water on the floor after the kid urinates.   See the mother's big smile with major satisfaction.

another trash-can as toilet situation

Not sure if this is piss or shit.  Could be both.

I can almost smell it from here

Hong Kong people are a bunch of dogs, bastards, traitors, and assholes according to Kong Qing-Dong

2012/01/20 Labels: ,

According to Kong Qing-Dong (孔慶東) - a Peking University professor,  Hong Kong people are a bunch of dogs, bastards, traitors, and assholes
Apparently this 73rd generation descendant of Confucius who heads the annual inside joke - the Confucius Peace Prize, was upset after the recent incident between mainland tourists eating on the MTR with local passengers.
Some of his takes:
- People in Hong Kong do not speak the Kingdom's official language "Putonghua", and therefore they are assholes.
- People who cannot / do not speak Putonghua are morally and intelligently inferior, and thus do not share the same moral standing as those who speak.
-  Hong Kongers still miss the Brits and refuse to fully integrate with the new master.  They are dogs and traitors who look down on the mainlanders.
- The only thing good about HK is the rule of laws, which is some kind of a leftover by the Brits anyway.   And orderly behaviors out of the rule of laws are at best superficial as they are not coming from the hearts.   Another evidence that HKers are bastards.
While this moron has again successfully made his 15 minutes of fame on the internet, this unholy combination of self-absorbed, shallow, arrogant, presumptuous scum shows us an example of how assholeness knows no end.    Confucius must have rolled over in his grave knowing some self-promoting dickhead who claims to be his descendant keeps making a goddamn fool out of himself.
And again,  do not fucking come to HK if you don't like it.   No one welcomes you.

Hong Kong identity crisis

2012/01/17 Labels: ,

Another embarrassing episode unfolded last week for Beijing by the recent surveys regarding national / citizenship identity conducted by the Hong Kong University.  The results, unsurprisingly, showed the number of Hong Kongers who identify themselves as "Chinese" is hitting a new low.    Here is the abstract of the surveys.
While the Beijing government may not understand why more people in HK do not want to associate themselves with the term "Chinese citizens", its immediate reflex had led a series of denunciation and suggested the poll was either politically motivated or uncalled for since we are already by default in the same ethnic group.
Here is an article by The Washington Post.

Chung has been surveying Hong Kong identity since the territory’s return to China, and the results of his latest poll merely confirmed anecdotal evidence of a significant trend among residents: growing resentment toward — and a sense of separateness from — mainland Chinese.

I guess this guy speaks my mind on this:

What can be done about it? Well, a first step would be stop trying to make Hong Kong like the rest of China. I often compare Hong Kong to Quebec in Canada. Both places have “distinct societies”, both places have different historical ties, and both places have different languages. Canada made a decision to preserve the uniqueness that is Quebec; China could do the same with Hong Kong.

My only criticism is you cannot really be serious if you actually try to compare China with Canada in term of protecting minority interests (or anything else in respect to universal human values).   If we act like those in Quebec we would have been carpet bombed long time ago as Beijing would literally shit on its pant if you ever mention the term "referendum."
Anyways, why the divide between the HKers and our cousins in the mainland?   Youtube is worth a thousand words.   Here is a recent footage showing how one of the passengers reacted to the mainlanders eating inside the MTR train where no food was allowed.

Taiwan - our last best hope

2012/01/15 Labels: ,

As expected, Ha won the second term as Taiwan's president.    I would say the island of Taiwan is the last best hope of freedom and democracy in a Chinese soil.   Despite all its faults, Taiwan has become more mature in developing a civil society with fair election, the limitation of its government, and the preservation of individual freedom - all these things that Hong Kong once enjoyed and are now evaporated through gradual self-castration and Beijing's careful colonization.
The defeated candidate - Tsai's concession speech was well-written, gracious, and touching.
'I admit our support was not enough,' Tsai said. 'We need to improve on our campaigning and get better at spreading our message. I take full responsibility for the loss.'
'Tonight I believe we are all disappointed.  We can cry, but we cannot be discouraged.   We are wounded but we cannot give up, for we have our responsibilities.   We still need to keep on fighting in defense of this land.   Wherever we are we always love and cherish this land and this country."
This is the kind of democratic tradition we are talking about.
On the other side of the coast, here in Hong Kong we'll have our own CE electron next year.   Only 1200 hand-picked Beijing loyalists are allowed to vote and as we all know the result has already been decided.   The two running candidates - one who is aggressive and cunning and the other one considered to be somewhat "slow" and seemingly with minor retard.    Beijing seems to opt for the retarded one for the moment - and yes we are fucked as always.

The D&G ban on photography which pissed off thousands, had become a full protest today.    The locals had spoken - we are not to be fucked with...

mainland drunk chick in HK tram

2012/01/07 Labels: ,

Another seemingly mentally questionable mainland auntie who happened to be influranced by alcohol - made her appearance in the news this week.     According to the story, after her failure to catch the tram by chasing it on foot for a couple blocks, she basically forced herself on the rail for the tram to stop.   Once she finally got in, the lady had begun to release the kraken with all her screaming and yelling to the degree of totally fucking losing control.   That explained the police.

While the HK police force is well known for its swift actions against street protestors and political dissentients, in this case they decided an attempt to talk her out of the situation (for like 20 fucking minutes) hoping her sanity might somehow magically come back, before their patience ran out and finally locked her away.

It is pretty funny to see when one of the passengers kept asking her if she is from the mainland, as all the characteristics displayed from this individual resemble the stereotype of a completely disfunational bitch from our great motherland.

The DOLCE & GABBANA PR disaster

Labels:

To be honest, I was unaware of the existance of a brand "D&G" before this incidence - which involved its flagship shop resided on Canton Rd TST (a fallen occupied zone by the mainlanders with shitload of cash for super expensive crap in HK) and a few locals who attempted to take photos in front of the store.

Apparently the store's refusal to allow photos to be taken even from the public walkway by the locals had caused public outcry in these few days. What pissed the HKers off even further was the ostensive discrimination demonstrated when only those who D&G deemed to be the potential "real" customers (i.e. the mainlanders) are welcomed to take their iphone shots freely.

So yestersday a group of angry local mobs gathered in front of the store for their photo-op campaign against the shop. Someone even managed to illegally park two Pagani Zonda sportcars on the sideway during the event (some suggested they belonged to the store owners who would like to see their cars burned).

For this company DogShit & Garbage, I do extend my benefit of the doubt. Since they cannot possibly fuck this PR up so badly so willfully, it must have been a masterminded new campaign for the store's turnaround strategy. It's been successful so far as at least now even a caveman like me know about this supposedly hotshot Italian brand specialized in shitty looking overpriced begs just for the riches from the north.

space capsule coming to town

2012/01/05 Labels:

What makes Hong Kong such a miserable place to live (except for its well known terriable air pollution, rude and nasty locals / mainland tourists, an Vichy-France-like government...etc.) is the ridiculous cost of housing.

It is fair to say for anyone under 35, single and not from a well-to-do family (I mean with more than $1 million USD worth of assets), buying a flat in Hong Kong is basically not within your reach.

But hey, that is no need to despair. Introducing a trendy new living style from Japan - for only $3500 HKD a month you can do the time sleeping in a crappy little cage for you to continue slaving away.

Can the poor and the disadvantaged in Hong Kong be able to live like a god damn human being?

When Heaven Burns

2012/01/04 Labels:

This happened a few days ago, when a group of harmless dudes jaming music in street corner somewhere in Causeway Bay. Such a thing wouldn't raise an eyebrow in places like New York, London, or any other civilized cities around the globe, but in HK the police will stop you and have your ID checked!

While the govenement had spent billions of HK taxpayer's blood money on the "West Kowloon" cultural project (another giant goldmine for the big 4 real estate developers of course), and yet you will be crushed if you try to do anything cultural in public display.

And guess what? In any given day the streets are full of commercial stands set by various cable, phone, fitness companies occupying the public walkways selling shit, the police does nothing.

I'm not at all surprised about this incident. After all this city is dying ( a current catchphrase after a recent TVB hit show "When Heaven Burns".

And BYW, Fuck you HK police.
